AVIRA releases its latest engine version (6.33), introducing the incremental updates method for the Virus Definition File (VDF). The incremental VDF Updates method consists in having the virus definitions into four files, designed for different update intervals, allowing updates grouping on a monthly, weekly or daily basis. In this way, the usual update will only replace the daily VDF, which will have only a few hundred kilobytes. This means that download volume and download time will be considerably reduced, resulting in minimized download costs and maximized security level of the system. Instead of downloading the previous larger VDF, AVIRA users will now be able to install only those virus definitions that have been added since their last VDF update.

Fiber Auto-Negotiation is a feature Transition Networks' supports on its Gigabit Ethernet copper-to-fiber media converters. When this feature is enabled, the converter will negotiate with the device to which it is connected, and determine the best fiber link settings. These settings include both the duplex mode and the pause mode of operation. When users are linking a Gigabit Ethernet copper-to-fiber converter, such as the CGETF10xx-105 or SGETF10xx-105, to a Gigabit fiber switch (including switches with GBIC ports), they will have to "enable" fiber auto-negotiation. When two Gigabit converters are used back-to-back, on both ends of a fiber link, fiber auto-negotiation should be "disabled". The copper port will advertise its speed and negotiating the duplex and pause settings.
